Celebrating Life and Womanhood: Kristyn and Megan

Kristyn and Megan met each other during their undergrad years at Valparaiso University.  They say they didn’t know it then, but Life intended to knit them together in ways they couldn’t even imagine.  As Kristyn finishes up her second year of medical school and Megan graduates with a master’s degree, these two friends find themselves closer than ever.  These women say they have seen each other through a lot over the years—through broken hearts, broken relationships, depression, an eating disorder, body image issues, dark seasons in their spiritual walks, and many other trials and storms.

As mid-twenties single Christian women, they admit it is sometimes difficult to feel beautiful without that special someone there to remind them of that fact.  I was commissioned to take these photographs in order to help them celebrate who they are each made to be as individuals.  I also wanted to capture the joy they felt in knowing that they have been sustained through some very difficult seasons of life, and the lightness of Being that they experience now from gaining victory over Life's valleys.  Lastly, they sought a fun and creative way of reminding themselves of the Freedom they can never lose—freedom from self-hatred and self-doubt, freedom from the lies of this world, freedom to choose Joy, Love, and Hope over any single life circumstance.

And what prop would you use for such a celebration? Balloons, of course!  These best friends say you’re never too old to kick off your shoes, jump through the grass (with or without a handful of balloons), and be vulnerable to admit God's love for each of us alone is the root of every good thing.
